The Best Time For A School Assembly

Greetings! I’m Dan Kirk, The Juggler With The Yellow Shoes. I’ve been presenting school assemblies, performing, speaking and entertaining full-time since 1993.

I enjoy presenting educational and fun assemblies in schools. And I want the schools to know that if they have a choice on when to have an assembly, there are better and worse times to choose to reach the most students.

When is the best time to have a school assembly? Maybe a better question should be, “When is the worst time to have a school assembly?” Either way, there are good times and there are better times.

Educational and fun school assemblies are a great way to engage your students in a non classroom setting. We all know children learn better by mixing it up. Some students learn best with a full sensory experience like an assembly. Of course the assembly presenter has to be good. (I’m told I’m better than good.) I, like any assembly presenter, want to deliver the best experience for your students.

It’s quite easy to pick out the worst time. When do the students get restless? Afternoons right? So if you have a choice between doing an assembly program with any presenter, the best time of day would be mornings. The best days? Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

When is another time that student’s attention seems to drift? Before Christmas break? Before Spring break? On the day before a day off on any kind, right? Right!

Now I’m going to do a great job and you’re still going to like what I have to offer, but your students will be a bit louder, take longer to quiet down, and be distracted by each other if you have me perform on a Friday afternoon. Keep in mind that you didn’t hire me or any other assembly presenter to discipline the students. Please, please, please, if someone is being disruptive, take action.

As a self employed person, I am going to take any event that I can take. So if you want me to perform at your school on the afternoon the day before Winter break begins, don’t plan on your students learning much. Have me present my Just For Fun program. Great lessons with no complex content.

So the bottom line for the best times are: mornings, early in the week.

Schools have been doing less and less assemblies which saddens me. Please don’t let this blog deter you from having an afternoon assembly if that is what fits best into your schedule. I want to do what works best for you so you can enrich your students lives with an awesome assembly program.

I’m writing this on a Thursday. Tomorrow I have two school assembly presentations. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. They are going to love me!
